Immediate Dentures
In the case that you need to have one, several, or all your teeth extracted, immediate dentures are used to replace the missing teeth ‘immediately’ after extraction.
The process for immediate dentures begins with all the necessary appointments being made before extraction and includes creating ‘pre-made’ dentures that will be inserted, in most cases, on the same day of the extraction.
These temporary immediate dentures allow time for the mouth to heal. Later on, about six months after extraction and once the mouth has healed completely, permanent dentures can be fitted by a professional denturist.
Having immediate dentures prepared before an extraction allows the patient to resume normal everyday activities without worrying about the possible embarrassment of missing teeth.
The alternative to an immediate denture, if you require extractions, is to wait for healing to occur before fabricating the denture. This can often be inconvenient or not practical for many people.
