Cost of Dentures
One of the most common questions we hear is, “How much do dentures cost?” That’s a perfectly reasonable question to ask as dentures are not a small ticket item, however, they do represent a milestone in one’s life and should be seen as an investment in your oral health.
The cost of dentures will vary depending on the type of dentures you need, the quality of the materials being used, and costs involved with subsequent care.
At Royal Jubilee Denture Clinic, generally, we price all our dentures according to the guidelines set forth by the BC Denturist Association.
Some insurance plans will cover the cost of dentures and maintenance. We can assist you in determining what coverage your insurance will provide towards your dentures.
Denture Costs
There are different types of dentures: complete, partial and implant-supported dentures, and each will vary in cost.
- Complete dentures are designed for the top and//or bottom jaw when all teeth on an arch are missing
- Partial dentures replace either one or more missing teeth in an arch and fit around your existing teeth. There are several types of partial dentures available.
- Implant-supported dentures attach to surgically-placed implants in your jaw to help support and retain the dentures.
Implant-supported dentures typically cost more than complete dentures as implants require a surgical procedure and extra components.
Implant-supported dentures can be pricier as surgery is required but they do offer the most stable and convenient experience for the wearer.
How much do dentures cost in BC?
In B.C, adults may have access to basic dental coverage if they:
- Get disability assistance from the government
- Are on social assistance
The ministry coverage is basic and is much lower than the standard fee guide for Denturists so balance billing is required in most instances with this type of coverage.
Types of Materials
Like many things in life, you get what you pay for. When investing in your oral health, it’s important to consider the quality of material matters when it comes to dentures.
In general, cheaper materials will result in a less realistic appearance, may not fit or function as well and will have less longevity when it comes to the wear of the denture.
Higher quality dentures, on the other hand, are more hygienic, stronger, thinner, last years longer, and have much more characteristic details for a more natural appearance. Most importantly, they will function and fit much better with less adjustments.
Other Costs
Aside from the cost of dentures themselves, there may be various other costs associated with dentures including:
- Tooth extractions
- Implants
- surgical reshaping of redundant bone to reduce future complications with the dentures
- Relines
- Oral exams
- General maintenance of the dentures
Other ongoing costs can include denture adhesive, denture cleaners, and denture products.
Immediate Dentures
Immediate dentures are designed to be inserted immediately after tooth extractions and provide the patient with teeth on the same day. They are premade before the extractions and allow the patient the luxury of not going without teeth.
As the mouth heals, the gums and supporting tissues shrink and change shape. As such, it will be necessary to reline the dentures several times over the course of 6 months to preserve the fit and ensure they remain comfortable and functioning well.
As a result, there are some added costs with immediate dentures. During your consultation, we will outline all the associated costs for you with no hidden fees later.
