Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are removable dentures that replace only certain teeth or sets of teeth [image here of partial dentures] along either the top or bottom jaw. They fit around and adjacent to your natural teeth to provide full occlusion and a natural appearance.
Partial dentures can be used permanently or temporarily until other treatments such as implants and crown or crown and bridge treatment can be completed.
There are several types of partials available including:
Cast Metal Partial
With a thin metal framework, cast from either Chromium Cobalt, Titanium (hypoallergenic) or Gold, these partials provide a strong, natural fit. These are cast precisely around your natural teeth which provide support for the denture and the best fit with the least amount of tissue irritation.
Flexible Partial
This is made out of flexible nylon. It utilizes clasps that blend into the tissues providing great aesthetics. This type of partial is flexible and considered unbreakable. The flexibility allows this partial to be used in situations that are not practical with other partials. These are not supported by the existing teeth and in some occasions may cause tissue irritation.
Acrylic Partial
This type of partial is usually considered a transitional denture. It can be worn permanently but is bulkier, prone to breakage, not as retentive and may cause tissue irritation as it is not supported by the existing teeth. Acrylic partials are often used temporarily as a postoperative prosthetic until the tissues are healed enough for other treatment modalities such as a cast metal partial, implants or crown and bridge.
